A Diary of HOME: Restoration

Abatron products were used for the window restoration. Since I am a green building consultant I did some research as to its possible emissions for indoor air quality. Two products were used from the line, WoodEpox, and Liquid Wood.  Both were listed as GreenGuard Certified Products. Abatron tested as very low levels in chemical emmissions and are solvent free.  This is important to us, because our daughter has many sensitivities to various chemicals.

A Diary of HOME: Restoration-Termites!

There is significant insect damage from termites in this window, so we decided to replace it with a new sash. There was very little wood left to restore anyway. The original wood sash is douglas fir. After pricing douglas fir today, we decided on pine.  With a good quality paint and proper maintenance it is comparable. The exterior casement around the window frames were in bad shape as well.  We wanted to create an exterior casement profile that would match the existing.

A Diary of HOME: Window Renovation

We are embarking on restoring our 1920's home old windows. We hired a wonderful contractor David Schroeder from [IN]form Builders who specialized in restoration.  Most people decide too quickly to replace old windows before looking to see if they can restore them. Older windows were made from old growth wood that were denser and more weather resistant than todays wood products.  Our windows needed some TLC, having gone through many winters with loose crumbling paint.

Human Habitats-The Healing Dance for Peace

The Healing Dance for Peace started 20 years ago by Rhythmic Living Presents. It preceeded the conference sacredspace2000. Its founder and facilitator Haqqika L. Bridges, gathered people of all walks of life on the Sunday before Thanksgiving every year until Nov. 2000. This event was an extention of the development of the book The Healing Dance. Dance promotes the sense of belonging and can promote and motivate change, unite communities for a cause and rally them to a common vision including promoting peace, conflict prevention, Human Understanding and democracy.
